Robert F. List is of counsel with the Firm, practicing in the areas of administrative and regulatory law, commercial and civil transactions, and government affairs. Prior to joining Hutchison & Steffen, he was of counsel with Jolley Urga Woodbury & Holthus.
He was raised in a ranching family in Nevada and was elected Governor of Nevada, serving from 1979–1983, during which time he led the formidable and successful fight to drive the mob from the state’s casino industry. Previously, he was elected District Attorney of Carson City (1967-1971) and as Nevada’s Attorney General (1971-1979). Governor List was President of the Nevada District Attorneys’ Association, and Chairman of both the Western Governors’ Association and the Conference of Western Attorneys General.
Governor List was appointed to boards and commissions in the administrations of Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, including the National Public Lands Advisory Council, The Commission on the National Policy Toward Gambling and the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. He served as Nevada’s Republican National Committeeman, and as Chair of the RNC Budget Committee. Governor List has participated as a member of numerous American diplomatic missions to Europe and Asia. His membership as a director on corporate boards include service on the boards of Nevada Canyon Gold Corp. (Minerals), Prime Trust LLC (Banking and Finance), College Loan Corporation (Higher Education Financial Services), the Las Vegas Sands Corporation (Venetian Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas and its domestic and international subsidiaries), Boomtown, Inc. (Casino-Resorts), First Interstate Bank of Nevada, Bank of Nevada, First Asian Bank of Nevada (Chairman) and Clark & Sullivan Constructors (Commercial Construction).
Governor List is currently the President and CEO of The Robert List Company, a consulting firm specializing in government and corporate relations, and is Managing Member of List Family Holdings, LLC, a real estate development firm.
His civic activities include volunteer service with the Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, the Keystone Corporation and Canyon Ridge Christian Church. Governor List’s hobbies include fly fishing, skiing, hiking and shooting, and he is a licensed pilot.
Governor List and his wife, Mary Minor “Polly” List, a partner in their business endeavors, reside in Las Vegas. Married for 30 years, they are the parents of two children, Robert M. List and Elizabeth List Fentress, and he is the father of three children from a prior marriage, Suzanne K. Pritchard, Hank List, and Michelle List Panelli.
