Joseph J. Powell is a partner with Hutchison & Steffen, practicing in trust and estate litigation, trust administration, probate administration, estate planning, asset protection, and business formation. A significant portion of his time is dedicated toward trust and probate litigation matters and their resolution, both in Nevada and California.
Joseph has litigated matters involving will beneficiaries, trust beneficiaries, personal representatives in estate matters, trustees in trust matters, as well as creditor claim issues. He has handled matters relating to claims of undue influence, lack of capacity, fiduciary fraud, mistake, and escheat, to name a few. Joseph also assists trustees, both professional and non-professional, with trust administration matters.
Over his years of practice, he has handled cumulative amounts in controversy that exceed one billion dollars, overseen several hundred probate estate administrations from start to conclusion, and drafted and reviewed hundreds of estate plans, including numerous Nevada asset protection trusts. Joseph has appellate experience, as well, having handled appeals relating to trust disputes brought in Nevada before the Nevada Supreme Court.
Joseph earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1998 from California State University San Marcos and his Juris Doctorate from Whittier Law School (magna cum laude, 2003) in 2003.
