David M. Doto had a distinguished litigation and in-house legal career spanning two decades in Philadelphia and Las Vegas. He represented clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 100 companies in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as provided general legal counseling services to them.
In 2008, David began to develop a passion for Alternative Dispute Resolution and has since devoted his career to the practice, teaching, and promotion of ADR. Though his primary office is now based in Las Vegas, Nevada, David provides services nationwide, giving him a unique perspective on the practice of ADR throughout the country. In recognition of his legal career, David was nominated in 2012 as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society comprised of outstanding attorneys throughout the United States who have demonstrated superior litigation accomplishments, and who have maintained an impeccable ethical reputation. In 2012, David became a co-founder of the LCA's American Academy of Alternative Dispute Resolution and served as its inaugural Chair.
David's extensive experience as a civil litigator and business legal consultant instills confidence in his clients during the mediation of litigated and non-litigated matters. He is an effective and skilled mediator able to employ transformative, facilitative, and evaluative techniques as necessary to facilitate dispute resolution, and often reconciliation, forgiveness, transformation, and transcendence. In addition to mediation, David provides a number of other ADR-related services on a nationwide basis, including group meeting facilitation, private arbitration, neutral case evaluation, and ADR systems design.
David also offers various training services tailored to client needs, including conflict management, negotiation, basic and advanced mediation, and mediation advocacy. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law, and at the Saltman Center for Dispute Resolution in UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law, and regularly teaches law school courses in mediation, mediation advocacy, and conflict management systems design.
David is a 1986 cum laude graduate of Villanova University with dual B.A. degrees in Philosophy and Psychology, and earned a J.D. degree from the Villanova University School of Law in 1991, together with numerous academic and subsequent professional accolades. He also earned a Master's Degree in Law (LL.M.) in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law.
David is a member in good standing of the State Supreme Court of Nevada, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. He is now an inactive or retired member in good standing of the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, and the District of New Jersey
