BIOGRAPHY

Jonathan J. Tew is a native Nevadan and partner at the Firm. Upon graduating law school, Jon moved to Chicago and began working for Drinker Biddle & Reath (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath, a full-service international law firm and one of the 50 largest law firms headquartered in the United States). After several years of practice in Chicago, Jon returned to Nevada to serve his home community.

Jon is an accomplished and strategic litigator who puts his clients’ interests first and is candid about the cost of potential litigation. Jon emphasizes a particular attention to detail, utilizes an in-depth understanding of the nuances of both substantive and procedural law, and employs a relentless work ethic to achieve optimal outcomes for his clients.

Jon is admitted to the Nevada, Wyoming, and Illinois State Bars. He is admitted to practice in all Nevada State Courts, the United States District Court, District of Nevada, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the State Courts and Supreme Court of Wyoming, as well as all State and Federal Courts in Illinois.

 

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

In his personal time, Jon enjoys spending time with his wonderful family of 6. Jon also enjoys golf, Muay Thai, running, and is an avid sports fan – routinely traveling to University of Southern California football games.

 

REPRESENTATIVE ENGAGEMENTS:

 

1. Complex Business & Commercial Litigation

A limited, but diverse list of Jon’s representative matters include:

Nevada District Court Actions

  • Representing approximately 100 plaintiffs in a ten-year case against a large casino and resort in Reno, Nevada over breach of contract, fraud, deceptive trade practices, tortious interference with contract, and the appointment of a receiver. Jon was essential in securing a compensatory judgment in excess of $8,000,000 and a punitive damages award of over $9,000,000;
  • Representing a multi-state broadband company to expunge a commercial temporary restraining order and defeat a preliminary injunction request relating to complex telecommunications and data transmission equipment;
  • Representing a small business owner in his defense of a commercial temporary restraining order in a fraud case, which resulted in $1.5 million dollar settlement in favor of the Jon’s client;
  • Representing two elderly clients who were defrauded into purchasing a membership interest in a cannabis company, resulting in a full refund of their investment;

 

2. Trust, Estate & Fiduciary Litigation

Jon has substantial experience litigating on behalf of trustees and beneficiaries. Some of his core work has involved financial elder abuse, fraud, fiduciary misconduct and trust disputes. Jon has helped secure millions of dollars for clients who were wronged by fiduciary misconduct, and has protected trustees – both individuals and corporate trustees – from liability.

 

3. Business Entities & Transactions

Jon regularly advises and assists clients with setting up business entities and handling their transactional and contractual needs. Presently, Jon serves as General Counsel to approximately 18 companies in Nevada and Wyoming.

    regarding essential business matters.
